GENDERCARE is an Irish based gender-identity consultancy, that provides various transgender related services.

GENDERCARE was founded in 2021 by Dr Vanessa Lacey.
Vanessa gender-transitioned in 2007 and began working and researching in the area of trans and gender identity.
 
GENDERCARE combines a vast array of personal, professional and academic experiences to provide clients with the most insightful and professional and scientific based trainings, workshops and consultancy in the most caring manner.

  • Member of the World Professional Association of Transgender Healthcare (WPATH)and EPATH.  
  • Member of both HSE and TUSLA sub-committees.

What is Gendercare?

GENDERCARE offers a rich and varied knowledge of lived experience in the area of gender-identity conflict and transition, as well as vast experience working across all sectors - consulting, research and policy writing. 

FAMILY SUPPORT

  • 15 years of experience developing supports, services and training focused on the needs of trans people and their families

  • ​Specialising in the area of grief and loss experienced by trans people and their families.
     
  • ​​Developed supports systems for both the trans community and their families, understanding that sensitivities exist for both parties when gender-transition is at the heart of the matter.
 
  • A listening ear is a vital and integral element of our services.


TRAINING is an essential part of the services offered, having designed and delivered numerous trainings to tens of thousand of healthcare staff in my previous role in TENI, with glowing feedback received.

  • Designed HSE land An Introduction to Transgender Healthcare in partnership with the Irish National Office for Suicide Prevention, and HSE Land team.
  • Developed a full day Transgender Awareness Training which is aimed at healthcare professionals across all disciplines and services.
  • Coordinated the development of the gold standard training; Gender Identity Skills Training (GIST), a training that has been recommended by the Irish health service (HSE) to be rolled out to their staff, and is seen by many key stakeholders as a vital factor in the development gender-identity related healthcare services throughout Ireland.

POLICY AND RESEARCH are an integral part of our services, having previously contributed to research and policy in all areas of Irish life, including:

  • Co-authored the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) guide for transgender healthcare
